Spirituality in Yoga Therapy: Bringing Transformation to Health

With institutions ranging from the U.S. Veterans Administration and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health to universities and medical centers now recognizing the importance of spiritual health, yoga therapists are poised to facilitate these explorations in integrative settings around the world by keeping the yoga, complete with its aim of spiritual transformation, in yoga therapy.
Research has established that, at least in the West, people often begin a yoga practice in hopes of accessing benefits to the physical body, and maybe to mental and emotional health as well. We also know that something else keeps them practicing, and studies have begun to clearly demonstrate the importance of spiritual health to overall well-being.
